In 2010, director Deva Katta made a Telugu language film called #Prasthanam which was a hit at the box office. This week the same filmmaker came to Bollywood with the remake of his Telugu film in Hindi. Does he succeed in his attempt or falls flat? Let’s analyse
Synopsis
#Prashthanam tells a story of how a family, who is into the political arena, destroys themselves for political power.
Direction
#DevaKatta may be a big name in the Telugu industry but as far as this film is concerned, his direction is weak and has a typical 80's style feel to it which may not be liked by today’s audience.
Technical Department
Cinematography is ok. Editing could have been sharper. The basic issue with the film is the haywire and haphazard screenplay which lacks continuity and emotional quotient. It has the same old beaten-to-death concept of internal family issues and problems. The script also lacks novelty in subplots and does not keep the viewer engaged. Music is another letdown. The songs are strictly average, pop up from nowhere and hamper the pace of the film.
Performances
This film proves that you may assemble the best cast, but if the story does not have the potential, your film is reduced to a tale of mere caricatures. #SanjayDutt shines in the role of the family head and shrewd politician. #JackieShroff and #ChunkeyPandey are wasted. Same goes for #ManishaKoirala. I wonder what she found so exciting in her role that she agreed to do the film. She is simply wasted in a poorly written role. The stars of the film are #AliFazal and #SatyajeetDubey! They both play their part well and the best scenes of the film are between them only.
WMR Verdict
#Prasthanam is again an example of all glitz but no glory. The message from us is loud; invest in the script rather than the stars. This film can be easily avoided.
