Password (Bengali): Movie Review

The movies related to cybercrime are rare in Indian cinema; however, the subject is very relevant in today's world. #DevAdhikari has taken a huge risk of making a Bengali movie in this genre. His production house was trying hard to make films on new concepts in the past few years. Unfortunately, the proceedings did not work for them in the past. This time Dev and team have come with a researched topic in the form of #Password.

Synopsis

DCP Rohit Dasgupta (#Dev) and his team are trying to save the nation from a potential cyber-attack. A terrorist group comprising Ismail (#ParambrataChatterjee) and Mari0m (#PaoliDam) are on a mission to launch the cyberattack. Are the antisocial elements successful in fulfilling their evil intentions? Are Rohit and his team able to thwart off the cyberattack? Why the movie is named #Password? The answers to all these questions form the crux of the movie.

Direction

The director #KamaleshwarMukherjee has painted the movie on a large canvas. It is really difficult to make a movie of 2 hours and 15 minutes on a subject like this. Therefore, the efforts of the director are certainly commendable. #KamaleshwarMukherjee has proved his worth yet again as one of the best directors in the Bengali film industry with a unique way of storytelling. #RanaMukherjee has written the screenplay of this movie, and he has done a fabulous job.

The movie has its own share of flaws. #AdritRoy’s character is not etched well. It also seems a little weird to see cyber-crime cell operators involving in combats. The on-field team and the cyber-crime team should have been different. Ismail’s backstory could have been elaborated. There isn’t much clarity on how Ismail was able to form such an intellectual organization. Despite these flaws, #Password excels in all other departments.

Technical Department

The editing of this movie has been brilliant. The movie is a fast-paced thriller, and it does not allow the audience to lose attention even for a single minute. The camerawork of the #NationalAward winning cinematographer #AvikMukherjee deserves appreciation. The dialogues are simple and well-written; especially the shayaris written in Urdu and Hindi for #Parambrata. The action sequences are neatly choreographed, and the audience will certainly enjoy watching those sequences.

Music and Background Score

The background score created by #Savvy creates a positive vibe throughout the movie. Only two songs are used in this film. The timing of the songs has been apt in the movie. Both '#TrippyLage' and '#AyeKhuda' are well-used in the movie, and they add a unique flavour to the movie.

Performances

The transformation of Dev for his character Rohit is mind-blowing. Dev kept the character of DCP Rohit Dasgupta very simple. His nuances and mannerisms didn’t have any hint of exaggeration or over-the-top expressions. He played the character with utmost sincerity and conviction. #ParambrataChatterjee was a revelation in this movie. From his dialogue delivery to the body language, Parambrata rocked in all areas. He was a treat to watch. Bengali film industry hasn’t witnessed such a calm and composed villain for a long time now.

#PaoliDam was reduced to a mere caricature with limited dialogues. We would have loved to see more attributes of her character.

Adrit was really promising in his limited screen time. #RukminiMaitra stole the show!! Her character has several shades, and she was fabulous in the film. This is certainly one of her career-best performances (She was brilliant in “Kabir” too). #RukminiMaitra is a star that is slowly creating its own universe in the Bengali film industry.

WMR Verdict

#Password is a new-age film that should be watched by all. The climax of the movie indicates that a second part is on the cards. #Password is a well-made movie, and the audience will certainly be entertained after watching this movie.
