Synopsis
The second season of the crime thriller begins from where it had ended in the first season. The makers have interlinked both the seasons quite successfully. The web series is based on a story of a mother who is willing to do anything to save her son's life. In this process, she gets involved in a drug racket. Will 'Kaali' be able to live a normal life with her son? Will she be able to free herself from this drug racket? You have to watch the second season of 'Kaali' to get the answers.
Direction and Screenplay
The makers of the web series, Aritra Sen and Rohan Ghose have tried to keep the screenplay engaging with many twists and turns; however, few twists seem implemented unnecessarily and could have been easily excluded. The screenplay is uneven, and the audience might feel perplexed between both the timelines. Although the initial episodes of this web series are written brilliantly; the climax could have been more meaningful.
Performances
Paoli Dam is brilliant as the lead character 'Kaali'. She has been extremely confident and natural in her role. Chandan Roy Sanyal's character is superbly written in this web series, and even he is quite impressive. The audience had recently witnessed Abhishek Banerjee as 'Hathoda Tyagi' in Paatal Lok. Therefore, the expectation level of the audience has been reasonably high from his character. Abhishek Banerjee has equally done his job nicely. However, he could have been given more screen time in this web series. His character is not etched well by the makers. Rahul Banerjee is decent as the police officer, and the lady cop Vidya Malvade has done a good job as well. The supporting cast has also delivered a fine performance in this web series.
Cinematography
The colour tone used in the web series matches quite well with the theme of the series. The cinematography of this series has been able to portray the underbelly of Kolkata brilliantly.
Editing
The editing of this web series could have been way better. Few episodes are stretched and after certain point of time, the audience will feel a bit bored. The makers could have easily trimmed those scenes from the web series to make it crisper.
Music and Background Score
The background score of this thriller is decent enough to keep the audience intrigued.
Overall Review
'Kaali' season 2 fails to reach the mark touched by season one. You can watch this web series for the top-notch performance of the lead character Paoli Dam. There are several crime thrillers available in various OTT platforms these days. The makers will now need to understand that things are getting repetitive. Now, they need to work harder to hit the Bull's Eye so that the series can touch the heart of the audience.
