Jawaani Jaaneman: Movie Review

Synopsis

#JawaaniJaaneman is a story of a relationship between a father and a daughter who are unknown to each other. 'Jassi' aka 'Jazz' (#SaifAliKhan), who is in his mid-forties, wants to live a care-free life without any responsibilities. Tia (#AlayaF) enters his life and proclaims herself as his daughter (Doesn’t the concept sound similar to movies likes #Masoom and #JabPyaarKisiSeHotaHai?). Is Tia really Jassi’s daughter, or is she faking a relationship for some ulterior motive? Who is Tia’s mom? How does Jassi’s life change once Tia enters his life? The answers to all these questions form the recipe for the movie #JawaaniJaaneman.

Direction

#NitinKakkar has impressed all of us with his debut movie '#Filmistaan'. Unfortunately, his next two movies '#Mitron' and '#Notebook' did not fare well at the #boxoffice. In #JawaaniJaaneman, the director has done quite an impressive job; however, the screenplay of the movie let it down. #JawaaniJaaneman tells a complicated story in an over-simplistic manner. The 'comedy' portion has worked quite well for this film. #Hussain and #AbbasDalal's dialogues are witty and will tickle your funny bones. The movie fails to establish an emotional connection with the audience in the first half.

The plot of the movie is set in London which makes the boisterous lifestyle of 'Jazz' fairly acceptable to the conservative Indian family. In the second half, the pace of the movie slows down as a bit of drama (emotions) has been incorporated in the screenplay. The subplot of the housing industry does not seem to go well with the theme of the movie and could have easily been trimmed. The ending is quite predictable and cliché. Overall #JawaaniJaaneman' remains a new-age family entertainer.

Technical Department

The cinematography by #ManojKumarKhatoi is impressive and the city of #London has been portrayed quite well. Although the editing by #SachinderVats and #ChandanArora is good, few scenes could have been trimmed to make the narrative more gripping for the audience.

Music and Background Score

The music of the film is average. The remake of #OleOle has been used at the beginning of the movie and '#GallanKardi' is used right at the end credit scene. In the middle portion, two melodious songs #BandhuRe and MereBabula have been used. The background score is also quite average and at times it does not match with the theme of the movie.

Performances

#SaifAliKhan has been brilliant as 'Jazz' throughout the movie. From his #macho appearance at the beginning to the transformation of being a good father, he has portrayed all the emotions beautifully. His comic timing has been astute. We also admit that the audience has already seen him doing these kinds of roles in his previous films. The challenge has been bigger for the newcomer #AlayaF (who happens to be the daughter of #PoojaBedi) to fit into the role of Tia. #AlayaF did a fantastic job. Her confidence and poise did not let us believe that it was her debut film. #AlayaF has a long way to go in Bollywood (and we wish her luck for the same).

The chemistry between #SaifAliKhan and #AlayaF is the USP of the movie #JawaaniJaaneman, and it has clicked quite well. #KubbraSait (who shot to fame as a transgender in the Netflix Original #SacredGames-Part I) has also been impressive as 'Rhea' (Jazz's friend). #Tabu has been completely wasted in the movie. An actor of her calibre should have received more screen time in the movie. #Tabu tries her best to portray the role of the hippie mother 'Ananya'. The supporting cast including #KumudMishra, #ChunkyPandey, #FaridaJalal, #KikuSharda has done a superb job in this film.

WMR Verdict

#JawaaniJaaneman is a new-age family entertainer. The film will certainly work at the #boxoffice and it's a pleasure to say that finally, a solo #SaifAliKhan starring film is looking 'safe' at the box office. The movie is worth a one-time watch this weekend if you want to enjoy a laugh-riot.
