Suppose you hear that a renowned chef has made a special dish that is available for consumption in your nearest restaurant. You reach the place and order that dish. As soon as you place the first morsel in the mouth, it tastes bland. As you continue eating, the taste of the dish goes about getting blander and blander. What would your reaction be? You will feel disappointed, disgusted, irritated, and cheated, isn’t it?
You can experience the same feelings when you watch the film “India’s Most Wanted.” Directed by #RajKumarGupta, who is known for making realistic films (#aamir, #noonekilledjessica, #raid), the film is a tribute to the unsung heroes of our country. The movie is inspired by a true story based on the arrest of #YasinBhatkal, founder leader of the terrorist organization #IndianMujahideen (IM).
Led by Prabhat (#ArjunKapoor), a group of Indian intelligence officers embark on a highly secret mission to track down India’s most wanted terrorist Yusuf (#SudevNair). Yusuf is the mastermind behind several serial blasts that take place at several different locations in India.
Prabhat, an intelligence officer, gets a tip-off from his source that Yusuf is hiding in Nepal. Since the lead is from an unconfirmed source, Prabhat doesn’t get an official permission to carry out this mission. However, Prabhat is convinced that his source is genuine, and he decides to go after Yusuf unofficially.
Prabhat forms a small team for the covert operation. Their mission is to go to Nepal, meet the source, verify the identity of Yusuf, and bring Yusuf back to India if his identity is confirmed. Prabhat and his team have only 4 days to complete the mission. They are unarmed, lack back-up support, and are surrounded by agents and informers of ISI in Nepal.
Does the team identify the source? Is the source genuine and trustworthy? Does the source lead them to Yusuf? How does the team manage to carry on their mission in such a risk-prone area? Is the team successful in nabbing Yusuf? Does ISI and Pakistan get involved in the fray to protect Yusuf? The answers to all these questions form the crux of the movie.
Considering the expertise of director Rajkumar Gupta at depicting true stories, this movie had enough potential to be a classy spy thriller. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a dull, lame presentation of one of India’s most successful manhunts. Arjun Kapoor retains a single expression in almost every scene throughout the film.
The movie fails to evoke the nationalist sentiment in spite of such a patriotic content. The movie is painstakingly slow. There is not a single exciting or thrilling moment in the entire film. Everything seems predictable right from the outset. The dialogues of the movie seem to be heavily borrowed from the film “Baby.” In fact, the theme of the movie also has an uncanny resemblance to Baby.
The background score is loud at several places in the film. The songs are average. The cinematography is one of the high-points of the film. A major portion of the movie is shot in Nepal. Your eyes are treated to some exquisite locations in Nepal.
The movie doesn’t have much to offer unless you are an Arjun Kapoor fan!!
Our verdict:
The movie disappoints in all the departments: be it the story, be it the acting, be it the direction, be it the narrative, or be it the pace at which it moves. It is extremely unconvincing and poorly represented. You can skip watching this movie in the theatre.
