Historical films have always been one of the important aspects of cinema. This week’s latest release #Hirkani depicts a real-life incident that happened during the reign of #ShivajiMaharaj. Does this film succeed in portraying the incident appropriately or not? Let’s analyse.
Synopsis
#Hirkani tells a story of a mother (#SonaleeKulkarni) who is not allowed to go to her village as the doors of Shivaji Maharaj’s fort get closed in the evening. #Hirkani’s baby is waiting at home for her. Since the doors of the fort are closed, there is only one way left and that is to get down from the steep end of the fort. Does #Hirkani succeed in her endeavours or is she caught getting down from the fort? Is she able to reach her baby in time? Does #ShivajiMaharaj come to know about this incident? The answers to all these questions form the crux of the movie.
Direction
Although the direction by #PrasadOak is good, he needs to concentrate more on presenting the flow of scenes smoothly. Nonetheless, he managed to create a technical marvel with superb performances by the cast.
Technical Department
The screenplay is weak especially in the first half where the film hardly moves. Many scenes are dragged unnecessarily, and even the songs prove to be a barrier in the story; however, the film is a treat to watch post interval. The scene where the protagonist starts the most difficult journey of crossing the valley to the climax is good. Editing could have been sharper especially in the first half. Cinematography by #SanjayMemane is world-class, and it is one of the biggest assets of the film. The valley scenes are jaw-dropping and bring you on the edge of your seat. The music is good but the background music is awesome and gels well with the mood of the film.
Performances
The film totally rests on the shoulders of #SonaleeKulkarni and she does not disappoint at all. She delivers one of her career-best performances. Her innocence as a village housewife, her fear, and love for her child are expressed superbly. She is a rare talent of Marathi cinema who hardly disappoints. #AmeetKhedekar, who plays her husband, needs to work on his acting skills. He needs to work on his emotional scenes as well. #PrasadOak and #MakrandDeshpande perform well in their respective cameos.
WMR Verdict
#Hirkani is a must-watch film for its technical brilliance, excellent acting skills by #SonaleeKulkarni and for the strong message that it conveys.
