Synopsis
'Breathe Into The Shadows' is a psychological thriller which is based on the kidnapping of a baby girl and her parents' desperation to get back their child. Mayank Sharma's show is the continuation of 'Breathe' season 1 which was released in 2018. The makers have continued with few old characters and introduced some new characters to maintain the essence of the web series.
After the kidnapping of the baby girl, the kidnapper has not contacted her parents for nine months. Finally, when the kidnapper has finally made the contact, he has asked them to kill a few people. To what extent the parents will go to find their child? What is the real motive of the kidnapper? You need to watch the series to get the answers to these questions.
Direction And Script Analysis
The writing of the web series is it's biggest letdown. The makers have tried hard to build some premise in the first few episodes. However, things have gone horribly wrong as the show progresses. The series relies on a far-fetched logic and the viewers will start to doubt the authenticity of the series after a certain point of time.
The makers have kept various twists and turns to keep the audience intrigued into it. However, with a poor plot development, the show gets tiring with each passing episode. The mythological elements do not blend smoothly with the main plot of the web series and after the shows like 'Asur' and 'Paatal Lok', the audience have developed high expectations in this genre. Sadly, the makers have seemed to miss the mark with this webseries.
Performances
This series seems to be made for Abhishek Bachchan. The series could have proved to be a game-changer in the career of Junior Bachchan. The actor has tried his best to maintain the shape of his character. As a father, he is quite impressive but he fails to emote in other areas of his character.
Nithya Menen has gelled well with the whole franchise. The chemistry between Abhishek Bachchan and Nithya Menen could have been much better.
Amit Sadh's (Kabir Sawant) character is a continuation of his role seen in the previous edition of the series. He has given another brilliant performance on screen. Unfortunately, he hasnt received enough screen-time, and this aspect is another weak-point of the series.
Plabita Borthakur is very impressive in this web series and her moments with Amit Sadh have worked as a lease of fresh air in this tiring web series.
Saiyami Kher's character is underutilized, and her character might get more importance if the next season of this web series comes at some point of time. The supporting cast (including Resham Shrivardhan, Hrishikesh Joshi, Shrikant Verma, Shradha Kaul, Nizhalgal Ravi, Pawan Singh, Shruti Bapna, and Shataf Figar) has done their job quite well to keep the audience engaged.
Technical Department
Editing
The series is overstretched. The main twist of the series gets revealed in the fourth episode itself, and after that it seems pointless to continue the show till the 12th episode. It could easily have been cut down to a series of 8 episodes. Each episode is almost 40-45 minutes long, and it fails to grab the attention of the viewers till the end.
Cinematography
The cinematography of the web series is superb, specially those portions which have been captured in dark.
Background Music
The background music is quite unique, and it helps to keep the thrill of the web series intact wherever the writing is poor.
Overall Review
These days several thrillers are available for the viewers. If the makers fail to reach the benchmark created by other popular webseries, the audience will certainly reject the series. 'Breathe Into The Shadows' is a disappointing show to be featured on Amazon Prime.
After the release of 'Paatal Lok', the audience had high expectations from this OTT platform, but 'Breathe Into The Shadows' miserably fails considering the hype of the series before its release. It will be very surprising if the OTT platform decides to bring the next season of this web series.
