Bharat: Movie Review

For the past several years, #Eid and #SalmanKhan's movie release have become synonymous with each other. After the failure of #Race3 in the previous year, Salman Khan paired up with the director #AliAbbasZafar to present '#Bharat' to his audience in this Eid. The duo of Ali Abbas Zafar and Salman Khan has previously presented two great blockbusters of #Bollywood namely '#Sultan' and '#TigerZindaHain'. So, the expectation level of the audience was really huge for 'Bharat'. However, the million dollar question is "Was 'Bharat' able to live up to the expectations of the audience?

Every film of Salman Khan can be reviewed in two ways. The first parameter involves the entertainment value of his film, and the second parameter comprises the cinematic value. The film 'Bharat' certainly has it's own entertainment value. The fans of Salman Khan have enough moments to cheer in the movie. As far as the cinematic value is concerned, Bharat is not the best movie of Salman Khan compared to his earlier movies (But it's not the worst too.)

'Bharat' is the official remake of the South Korean film 'An Ode To My Father'. It tells us about the journey of a man Bharat from 1947 to 2010. The aim of the film was to show the historical evolution of India alongside the story of the character Bharat. However, after some time, it only focused on the life of Bharat. Ali Abbas Zafar was confused between the two Bharats, and he chose to portray the Salman Khan Bharat in a larger than life mode than anything else.

The film has several positive aspects to talk about. Salman Khan tried his best to deliver a good performance as the lead character Bharat. He was mostly successful in it, despite some portions. In the film, Bharat comes to the Indian soil along with his family during the time of Partition. His father fails to accompany them, and he gives the responsibility of the whole family to a him (Bharat was just a 5-year-old boy at that time). Bharat takes the responsibility of his entire family, and till the end of his life he tries his best to fulfill the wishes of his father.

The first half of the film is interesting. It keeps the audience engaged with the life events of Bharat. The life of Bharat changes completely after meeting Madam Sir (#KatrinaKaif). Katrina Kaif delivered a decent performance in this film. There might be very few films where Katrina Kaif has acted really well.

'Bharat' will certainly remain as one of the best films in the career of Katrina Kaif. She still needs to improve a lot with regards to her dialogue delivery, but her expressions in the emotional scenes will certainly tug the heart of the audience. There is a unique chemistry between the lead pair of this film, and it is quite refreshing for the viewers.

#SunilGrover as Bilaity gave a standout performance in the film. #JackyShroff also did a commendable job as the father of Bharat.

The background music and the songs are good. 'SlowMotion' and 'Chasni' will certainly be among the chartbusters of this year. The cinematography is also praiseworthy.

Coming to the negative aspects of this film, the second half of the film is stretched a bit. The editing should have been crisp. Age is no bar for Bharat. Even in his late sixties, he fights the local goons away as if he is Tiger from #TigerZindaHain. The prosthetic makeup of Salman Khan looked quite unrealistic.

The last scene of Bharat is quite emotional. The director tried to experiment with Salman Khan in this film, and he was quite successful. However, the screenplay of this movie let this film down (especially in the second half). The character of Disha Patani is completely wasted as she has barely one or two dialogues in the entire film. The other characters of the film have also not been given much importance. Thus, the moral of the story is Salman Khan wins but Bharat doesn't.

WMR Verdict:

The fans of Salman Khan will not want to miss this movie at any cost. The box office collection of the film is already 42.30 Crores (as we are writing this review), and it is the biggest opener at the Box office for a Salman Khan film releasing in Eid. Despite some drawbacks, Bharat is a film that you can still watch for it's entertainment value (even if you are not a fan of 'Bhai').
