BADLA MOVIE REVIEW

BADLA Movie Poster

Ever since the trailer of #Badla had made its first appearance, it created a lot of hype among the movie critics. Badla is an official remake of the Spanish film ‘#TheInvisibleGuest’ and the makers of the film make it clear in the title credit scene itself.

Helmed by #SujoyGhosh, known for his highly acclaimed #Kahaani movie, Badla is a racy thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seats for its entire duration. There is a subtle directorial genius at play as the narrative progresses forward.

The movie revolves around the conversation of two central characters, Naina (#TapaseePanu) and her lawyer Badal Gupta (#AmitabhBachchan) in a room. The screenplay is outstanding and its interwoven with various twists and turns. The director ensures that the #suspense of the film is maintained right till the very end.

At one moment, you will assume that the plot will move in a particular direction; however, the very next moment the plot takes a sharp turn. Herein lies the beauty of this #thriller. The movie makes use of several relatable narratives from the #Mahabharata in this film which is one of the high points of the film.

Taapsee’s character has several layers, and she has been able to portray the emotions of each layer efficiently throughout the film. Amitabh Bachchan essays the role of a lawyer who is trying to help out Taapsee’s Naina who has been charged with the murder of Arjun (#TonyLuke). We have seen the chemistry between #AmitabhBachchan and #TaapseePannu in ‘#Pink’ as a lawyer and the client, respectively. However, you will observe a totally new dimension to their chemistry as far as Badla is concerned. It is both appealing and intriguing.

Amrita Singh (Rani) has done complete justice to her role. Although we haven’t been able to witness much of Amrita's work in recent times, she essayed her role like a pro. We would want her to take up more roles in the future considering the kind of acting skills she possesses.

The second half of the film is slightly better than the first half. Kudos should be given to the director as he does not take much time in the build-up of the story. The climax is awesome, and it will keep on haunting you even after the end of the movie.

Coming to the performances of the lead characters, both Tapasee and Amitabh Bachchan have done a fabulous job. Tapasee has sharpened her #Bollywood portfolio by a careful selection of character-oriented roles in movies, such as ‘#Pink’, ‘#Mulk’, and ‘#Manmarziyan’. Badla will certainly prove to be a feather in the cap for her. Amitabh Bachchan is an institute in self and you keep on pondering what a powerhouse of #talent this man is.

In thriller movies, the background score plays a vital role, and #ClintonCerejo has done a commendable job in this area. The #cinematography of #AvikMukhopadhyay is also efficient. Badla is shot completely in #Glasgow. Several scenic locations of this place can be seen throughout the movie.

The editing of the movie is crisp and crunchy similar to the earlier movies made by Ghosh. Undoubtedly, the director has mastered the art of #storytelling in the #thriller genre. Ghosh is getting better and better with each passing movie.

Verdict: You must watch ‘Badla’ in #theaters, even though it is a remake of the ‘#TheInvisibleGuest.’ Indian audience will certainly like this #film. ‘Badla’ has been released at a perfect time. There is no big release in the next weekend, and the other two movies currently ruling the box office are comedy films. (‘#TotalDhamaal’ and ‘#LukaChuppi’). ‘Badla’ might not become a #blockbuster like ‘#Kahaani’; however, it is expected to hit its target at the box office.
